This test apparatus is designed
to perform the test described in MIL-PRF-24667C. This static friction
tester measures static friction by pulling a sled of a known weight
across a sample material. The sleds are made of steel and the underside
is covered with vulcanized rubber to the specifications of
MIL-PRF-24667C paragraph 4.5.1.2.
This apparatus has a small drive
that pulls the sleds across the sample material at a constant nominal
speed of 12 inches per minute.
A force gage measures the force
required to pull the sleds across the sample material. It records the
force overtime and inputs the data into a PC for analysis. This data is
them transferred into an Excel template file were the static friction
value is calculated. Several tests can be performed on the same material
so that an average static friction value can be computed.
Sled calibration can be done per
the procedure described in MIL-PRF-24667C paragraph 4.5.1.4.
